A Hilarious and Heartwarming Surprise Proposal in Holland Park | Anthony & Nneka
As a London-based proposal and couples photographer, I’ve had the honour of capturing some unforgettable moments—but nothing quite like the surprise proposal of Anthony and Nneka.
From the very first message Anthony sent me, I knew this would be a proposal shoot like no other. His attention to detail, creativity, and sheer dedication to creating the perfect moment for his girlfriend (now fiancée!) Nneka completely blew me away.
The Perfect Proposal Plan (with a Twist!)
Anthony knew that Nneka, a successful content creator, was always up for a glamorous photoshoot. So he crafted an elaborate plan involving her brand manager and campaign team to trick her into thinking she was shooting a branded campaign for the luxury skincare brand TACHA.
Genius, right?
Not only did he create a fake brand brief, but he even sent her real TATCHA products days before to make the whole setup look legitimate. Every single detail—from email threads to campaign goals—was perfectly coordinated. I was looped in with the entire creative brief and tasked with playing the role of a campaign photographer.
Location: Kyoto Garden, Holland Park
We chose Kyoto Garden in Holland Park, one of the most romantic and scenic spots in London for proposal photography. With its tranquil waterfall and lush greenery, it's a dream backdrop for couples shoots and secret proposals.
On the morning of the proposal, I called Nneka pretending to be the photographer for the “campaign.” She arrived dressed to perfection in a radiant yellow dress, accompanied by her sister (who was also in on the surprise). I went along with the story—talking about the “campaign concept,” scouting light, discussing skincare shots… you name it.
When It All Unfolded
As we reached the main bridge overlooking the waterfall, I asked Nneka to pose for a few solo shots. Meanwhile, Anthony was stealthily hiding in the bushes nearby, bouquet in hand, waiting for the cue.
To make sure Nneka didn’t see him, I guided her into poses facing the opposite direction and complimented her on how amazing she looked from that angle. This gave Anthony just enough time to emerge from the bushes and sneak up behind her on the bridge.
The look on her face when she turned around? Absolute confusion.
At first, she screamed in shock, asking, “WHERE’S THE BRAND?!”—which, let me tell you, was the most hilarious moment of the day. It took her a few seconds to register what was actually happening: Anthony was proposing!
And just like that, amidst laughter, joy, and happy tears, he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Her answer? A loud, ecstatic YES!
